Nelleyram is a celebration of fiber art, where tradition meets innovation. Named as a reflection of reinvention, Nelleyram transforms crochet into a medium for storytelling, heritage, and creativity. Every stitch—whether in a baby sweater or a fine art canvas—is crafted with intention, blending technique and artistry to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind designs.
Through the art of crochet, Nelleyram reimagines yarn into storytelling. Whether adorning a canvas or keeping a loved one warm, each piece is a labor of love, crafted to inspire and endure.
When I was about nine years old, my Aunt Cicily taught me and my sister how to crochet, knit, and sew. Despite raising five boys, she took the time to share her skills with us, and for that, I’ll always be grateful. Those early lessons sparked a lifelong love of fiber arts. In the years that followed, I practiced crocheting by making scarves and small blankets.
While pursuing a professional career in corporate communications, I continued to crochet on and off, often creating gifts for friends, such as baby sweaters and blankets. Recently, I’ve found new inspiration through fiber artists who incorporate crochet into canvas designs. This has reignited my passion for yarn art and connected me to my Aunt Cicily’s lessons about embracing our heritage.
Drawing on decades of crocheting experience and a professional background in corporate communications, I bring innovation and care to every piece I create. My storytelling expertise helps me infuse meaning into my designs, transforming each piece into a narrative of identity and culture through unique designs that elevate crochet into fine art. From crafting intricate silhouettes to exploring 3D textures, I thrive on finding creative pathways to bring ideas to life and connect with others through the timeless art of crochet.
Creating fiber art using crochet stiches is a true labor of love. Every stitch is handmade, unlike knitting, crochet cannot be mass-produced. Each piece begins with freehand sketching, followed by individual crocheting and carefully attaching the stitches to a canvas. Creating a 12x12 canvas piece takes a minimum 25 hours of detailed work.
My silhouettes reflect personal and cultural identity. These designs celebrate the versatility of hairstyles I’ve worn over the years, from afros to protective braids. I love experimenting with 3D elements in my pieces and exploring new ways to bring my visions to life.
